look what i did
I finally got my bad self registered over at Ravelry. I’ve seen lots of links to my blog from that site, but never really had the chance to check it out myself.
Wow. They seem to really love my patterns! Who knew?! I seem to be gettingmore feedback over there than over here. Hrm.
Anyhow! New original patterns are coming! Including: a crocheted baby pirate hat, a stash busting knitted scarf, a sewing pattern for a softie or two, and a knitted baby flower pot hat. They’re all lurking in my brain, I just have to pump them out.
Back to it! Ta ta for now!
You may or may not have noticed the occasional wonkiness over here. What’s going on is that I am attempting like crazy-cakes to adjust this blog theme a little. And failing miserably.
What I want is for this actual content, where all the posts are, to be centered. On the left, ideally, will be the skinny white sidebar. On the right, in my fantasyland, will be the big beautiful orange box sidebar.
It’s a lovely theme. I adore it. I just want to tweak the layout and I simply am unable. I’ve gotten close after putzing with both php and css, but I can’t seem to get it all the way there, and I fudged up my last attempt to the point of having to start all over again. Siiigh.
If there is a single kind soul out there who is willing to help me out, I would be incredibly grateful.
In my small collection of old knitting and crochet books, there is a simple little two pager that I’d date in the 1970’s, seeing as it doesn’t actually have a date. Afghans & Shawls (You’ll love making and adore using) also has a killer shawl called the Bloom Loom Pink n’ Pretty Shawl that I’m going to have to work on updating.
As for a picture, my scanner is not cooperating, but the picture on the back is so tiny, you’re honestly not missing much. Send me a photo if you make it!! It seems to have a thick garter stitch border and a very lacy middle, thanks to all the dropped yarn overs.

So I’ve seen custom and decorated shoes all over the intertubes, and this weekend Jackie and myself decided to go out, buy a pair, and get to styling. Here’s mine.
They came out really really well! The shoes were pretty cheap as far as shoes go, just $5 at Pat Catan’s, and with another few bucks plonked down for the Sharpie Paint markers in black and lime green, these were a pretty inexpensive crafternoon.
I started off by coloring the toes black with a thick Sharpie with the intention of covering them with googly eyes. The googly eyes didn’t stay on, and after finishing, I sprayed them with that sealant stuff you put on suede and leather to make it waterproof. What’s more… the green parts glow in the dark, thanks to some glow-in-the-dark paint I discovered in my stash while rooting around for glue.
More pics after the jump.
Okay, it’s been awhile since I’ve been to Lion Brand’s pattern site. I’ve never been all that impressed with their selection of freebies. They once ranged from Meh to Ugh. But I just popped over there for the first time in awhile and OMFG, would you look at those doughnuts?! I have a soft spot for anything that resembles a baked good, and this is adorable. You may need to register to see the pattern… another irksome thing about Lion Brand. Ah well. Dooooooughnuts.
Hopefully things will go as planned around here. Honestly. You lose a blog due to your on stupidity in attempting to update the software, and then you never get back to putting it up again.
Shame on me. Sorry.
But here it is.
(as seen in 1959 Learn How Book)
At one point, I had three grandmas worth of yarn. One stash was given to me on the passing of my Great-Grandma Mary. Another stash came from a friend of my Grandma Nikki. The third was a big bag of acrylic I found at the thrift store. The bag was only 10 bucks, and also inside were some needles, a flower press, and a few books. This pattern is the wackiest of them, and comes from a Coats & Clark’s book, printed in 1959. I just had to share. I’m reproducing the pattern verbatim here, so if it’s confusing, I apologize.
Me and Suz, the fearless leader of the Cleveland SnB, were sitting at the bar, brainstorming different baby hat ideas. Y’see, last year at Bizarre Bazaar, we had all sort of cool grown up things, like purses and scarves and tampon holders. We didn’t sell much of those… but we did sell Donna’s felted fiends. And all sorts of people were asking for baby clothes. So! Suz suggested a cupcake hat, after seeing a nice spread of cupcake related products in the lastest issue of BUST. Since I’m too lazy to knit a ruffle and sew it on after the fact, I stole a bauble pattern from one of the SnBN pillows for a row, and the Cupcake Hat was born. Due to popular demand, an adult pattern is to come, tho I’ve had some difficulties with a big kid size. Enjoy!

Enough with frilly girly cupcakes. It’s time for a MAN’s baby hat! Yar! Or whatever vikings say. For a more Valkerie version of this hat, sew on some blonde braids instead of the earflaps! Here we go.

They say that sea sponges with poor fashion sense live in pineapples at the bottom of the ocean. I myself think that your baby’s head should live in a pineapple on dry land. This pattern makes use of a knitted texture that my girl Susan had in a calendar of some sort. I made this hat and sold it rather quickly at a craft show, and neglected to write down a few things, like the gauge and the exact measurements for the spikey leaf things. So if you know if you’re a loose/tight knitter, adjust accordingly. I’m rather average, myself.
